Scripture for Sunday, May 31

Luke 17:11-19

On the way to Jerusalem Jesus was going through the region between Samaria and Galilee. As he entered a village, ten men with a skin disease approached him. Keeping their distance, they called out, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” When he saw them, he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were made clean. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice. He prostrated himself at Jesus’s feet and thanked him. And he was a Samaritan.

Then Jesus asked, “Were not ten made clean? So where are the other nine? Did none of them return to give glory to God except this foreigner?” Then he said to him, “Get up and go on your way; your faith has made you well.”

Message Topic: Sunday's Scripture invites us to celebrate that we are seen by Jesus and we matter to Jesus.

Music

Listen to one of our newer songs.

This song is founded on the timeless words of John 3:16, reminding us that God's love is forever. We are invited to come, trusting in God's extraordinary mercy through Jesus.

Communion - this Sunday

Communion is a symbolic reenactment of the last supper Jesus shared with his disciples. The bread (gluten-free) and juice symbolize his death, point to his resurrection, and remind us that through his death he defeated the power of sin and death over us. Everyone is free to choose for themselves whether to participate or not.

DIG DEEPER into one of our recent sermons

This sermon explores the difficult realities of following Jesus: bearing responsibility for one another, confronting sin with love, and extending forgiveness again and again even when it costs us deeply. While discipleship can require hard obedience and challenge our sense of entitlement, the message reminds us that even a mustard seed of faith is enough because our hope, strength, and belonging are found in Jesus.

Questions for Reflection (Adults)

  1. What is the hardest thing Jesus has ever required of you? How did you respond?
  2. In what ways might your words, choices, or behaviour be influencing the people around you spiritually?
  3. Jesus calls us to care for one another enough to have hard conversations. How comfortable are you with being known deeply enough for others to challenge or encourage you?
  4. The disciples responded to Jesus by saying, “Increase our faith.” Where in your life do you feel that same prayer rising up right now?

Questions for Reflection (Children)

  1. Has there ever been a time when doing what Jesus wanted felt really hard? What happened?
  2. Can you think of a time when someone helped you follow Jesus or helped you make a good choice?
  3. Why do you think forgiving someone can be hard?
  4. The disciples asked Jesus for more faith because what he asked was hard. What is something you would like Jesus to help you with?
  5. Why do you think the sermon said that following Jesus can be hard, but worth it?
