Scripture for Sunday, Jan. 25

Luke 12:13-21

Someone in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me." But he said to him, "Friend, who set me to be a judge or arbitrator over you?" And he said to them, "Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one's life does not consist in the abundance of possessions." Then he told them a parable:

"The land of a rich man produced abundantly. And he thought to himself, 'What should I do, for I have no place to store my crops?' Then he said, 'I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.' But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life is being demanded of you. And the things you have prepared, whose will they be?' So it is with those who store up treasures for themselves but are not rich toward God."

Speaker: Pastor Elaine

Message Topic: What kinds of treasures are we storing?

Music

Listen to one of our newer songs.

This song reminds us of some of the ways God has shown his deep and abiding love for us, while leaving room for us to remember the things we have seen him do in our lives. Perhaps this song will inspire us to tell each other our stories of the great things God has done.

Communion - the first Sunday of each month

Communion is a symbolic reenactment of the last supper Jesus shared with his disciples. The bread (gluten-free) and juice symbolize his death, point to his resurrection, and remind us that through his death he defeated the power of sin and death over us. Everyone is free to choose for themselves whether to participate or not.

Be Not Afraid

Sunday, January 18th, 2026

This sermon invites us to live without fear by trusting God who knows us completely, values us deeply, and holds authority over both life and eternity. Even in the face of danger, doubt, or pressure, Jesus assures us that God's love is steadfast, forgiveness is offered, and the Holy Spirit will be with us to guide, strengthen, and give us the words we need.

Questions for Reflection (Adults)

  1. What do you think it looks like, in everyday life, to acknowledge Jesus before others, in a context where faith is often expected to remain private?
  2. Are there places in your life where your heart feels resistant or closed to God? What might it look like to open those places?
  3. How do you recognize the work of the Holy Spirit in your life? (e.g. through guidance, courage, conviction, or comfort)
  4. What is one way you feel invited to live with less fear and more trust in God's nearness and care?

Questions for Reflection (Children)

  1. Jesus tells us that God knows every hair on our head. How does it feel to know that God knows you that well?
  2. Jesus says we don't have to be afraid because God is always with us. Where do you feel God is with you during your day?
  3. Sometimes people make mistakes, like Peter did when he was scared. What do you think God does when we mess up?
  4. What is one way you can trust in God this week - at school, at home, or with your friends?
